Our lovely wedding today was a local affair, with our bride Ellie marrying Paul at The Great Barn in Wanborough, followed by a marquee reception in the garden of the bride’s family home.

Ellie tells us all about her Jesus Peiro 7014 wedding dress, and her beautiful Surrey barn wedding, in her own words.

THE DRESS

I chose the Jesus Peiro 7014. I loved that it was a classic dress with a modern twist. Everything about the dress was perfect for me and I loved the pockets. I never imagined I would wear a big dress like that but I felt amazing and can’t imagine myself wearing anything different now.

I was with my Mum when I found ‘the one’. I had been to Miss Bush before and had my first appointment with Emma was absolutely fantastic. As this was the first place I had been I wanted to have a look around but found myself back at Miss Bush a few weeks later as the experience there was incomparable to everywhere else I went. This time I had an appointment with Corrine. Both Emma and Corrine knew what would suit my shape and pulled out all sorts of dresses I never imagined myself wearing, all of which suited me better than the ones I had chosen. Including the one I fell in love with- Jesus Peiro 7014. I knew as soon as I walked out of the changing room to Mum’s reaction that it was the one. A quick FaceTime with my sister sealed the deal.

Everything about Miss Bush made the dress shopping experience exactly what I had hoped for. From the stunning interior to the extremely attentive, talented and friendly staff to the amazing dresses that they have to choose from. It’s hard to choose a favourite part. I loved my accessorise appointment with Rosie which made the whole thing feel very real and exciting. Trying on the dress at the final fitting was quite emotional! The seamstress was brilliant and it fitted perfectly.

STYLING

As the dress was fuss free, I wanted to stick to that look. On the morning of my wedding my parents gave me a gold and silver twisted bangle which I wore on the day. I chose my small gold diamond hoops with my hair in a simple low bun. For the service I chose silver Kurt Geiger block heels but as I am more a trainer girl at heart I spent the rest of the day in Kate Spade glitter keds. My mum sewed a blue ribbon to my petticoat which she had had on her wedding petticoat. I chose a Jesus Peiro veil to go with the dress which completed the look for me and made me feel like a bride.

ABOUT THE DAY

For the ceremony, the barn was very large so we decided to make it feel more intimate by hanging large white muslin drapes over the wooden beams at the alter. The barn was so beautiful in its own right, we really didn’t have to do much to it.

As the wedding reception was at home I wanted to create a relaxed vibe which suited Paul and I. I had a lot of help from family and friends and spent the months leading up to the wedding making decorations and doing lots of gardening. We collected all the rose petals from the garden and dried them out to make the confetti for the day. We planted hundreds of tulips and white climbing clematis. For the decorative flowers I chose Longi lilies, eucalyptus, cuscus and lots of white tulips. As it was a Spring wedding and Paul is Welsh, Daffodils were a prominent theme. We chose simple, good quality food. Tandem catering served our guests amazing canapés, peri peri chicken and chips and delicious mini puddings. The cake was decorated with flowers from the garden.

I honestly enjoyed the whole day and did not stop smiling throughout. I loved getting ready in the morning with my bridesmaids, mum and aunty. We were so lucky with the weather. This meant we could have the roof off the open top car and drove through the town I grew up in back to the reception, taking it all in with my new husband- that was pretty special. Being surrounded by all of our favourite people and seeing how happy everyone was. There was so much laughter all day and I loved every minute.

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE

I would say listen to the professionals! It’s amazing how they just know what will suit you. Try on dresses that you wouldn’t necessarily choose yourself- you may be in for a surprise. I would say try and do as much as you can in advance, I am a last minute person and left a bit too much to the last minute! Let people help you. Initially we wanted to do as much as we could on our own, but the help came in very handy when we realised how much there was to do! Just remember, everyone wants it to be a great day so don’t get too stressed. It all works out in the end!
