Our post today features Laura and Chris’s beautiful Gate Street Barn wedding, which took place in May this year, and features our Miss Bush bride wearing the stunning Suzanne Neville Scarlet wedding dress.

The Dress

Laura’s dress choice was Suzanne Neville Scarlet, a sleek and elegant column wedding dress with a really unusual waterfall front skirt and a delicate lace bodice with intricate illusion lace back.

Laura tells us more about her dress;

“It was the first dress where I felt like I wasn’t playing ‘dress up’ – I was wearing the dress, rather than the dress wearing me. I felt elegant and sexy which I didn’t realise was possible with a wedding dress. I loved the playful slit in the skirt, the elegant lace on the body and the sophisticated buttons down the back. I knew it was the one when I turned around and saw my mum and my sister welling up, that was it! I also thought ‘yes, Chris will love me in this’.”

“My mum and my sister, who was also my Maid of Honour, were at my appointments. Both of them were so surprised at how emotional they were when I found ‘the one’.”

“The whole Miss Bush experience was wonderful in the gorgeous setting of the chapel, and meeting Suzanne Neville for the designer day was even more special! She was so lovely and reassuring. Wearing one of her dresses in front of her was a little nerve-wracking but she made me feel at ease and suggested a few tweaks here and there. I knew I was definitely in good hands with the Miss Bush team & Suzanne.”

Laura accessorised her gown with a subtle pearl and diamanté headband from John Richard at Debenhams and decided against a veil in order to show off the beautiful lace at the back of her dress. Laura then added Rainbow Couture Court shoes in Luisa floral print satin, which added a glimpse of sparkle when she walked.

The perfect finishing touch was added to Laura’s look in the form of a beautiful gift from her husband to be;

“Chris bought me a beautiful Swarovski bracelet for the big day which my sister gave to me on the morning, which went perfectly with my Swarovski earrings and necklace.”

About the Day

Laura and Chris are huge fans of escaping to the countryside, the Surrey Hills in particular, so they wanted to plan a relaxed, rustic wedding in a beautiful countryside setting.

Laura tells us more about arranging their perfect day;

Gate Street Barn was the first venue we visited and we knew right away that it was the place for us. It was as if someone had been listening in on our conversations and created the perfect place! It had just the relaxed, rustic vibe we were after and we instantly felt at home. We especially loved the vista overlooking the field of long horned cattle and knew our families would too. Having been together for such a long time we knew we didn’t want the wedding to feel too stuffy or extravagant, we just wanted to make sure everyone we loved could join us for a happy day to celebrate becoming Mr & Mrs (finally!) and enjoy a good old knees up in a relaxed environment.”

“I loved every moment and wish it could have lasted forever. But the moment we walked back down the aisle as Mr & Mrs and the photography session that ensued was the perfect time for us to have that ‘eek! We did it!’ moment, just the two of us. The ceremony whizzed by in a blur (I was concentrating so hard on not crying!) so it was lovely to be able to spend time with my new husband in the beautiful country lanes feeling content and giddy with all the wedding day excitement.”

Final Words

Some words of wedding planning advice from our bride;

“Be open to trying on dresses you wouldn’t have necessarily picked out – it’s not something you normally shop for so what you end up with might take you by surprise!”

“Enjoy the little moments and exchanges between you and your new husband. It’s such an incredible day you will both be buzzing with the excitement and love of the whole experience. Remember to take time out for a cheeky kiss and cuddle, it’s your day and it creates an even stronger bond between you with such love and happiness in the air. (Sounds cheesy but it’s true!)”

“Don’t get caught up in the little details in planning the day, in the end, they really don’t matter. I was quite relaxed about it all as I work in events so this helped me to put it in perspective. It’s about the two of you, committing to spend the rest of your lives together, surrounded by the people you love.”
