We’re so happy to share Sophie and Elliott’s relaxed yurt wedding in Surrey, with Sophie’s ‘Duncan’ dress from Houghton NYC providing the perfect combination of simple but stylish bridal style.

THE DRESS

Sophie wore Duncan by Houghton, a stunning fitted dress in silk gazar, with a striking high-low fishtail skirt.

Sophie tells us more about her wedding dress shopping journey;

“My dress was by far the hardest part of the whole process.

I knew exactly what I didn’t want but had no idea what I did want. After visiting endless boutiques trying on every different style dress possible I started to give up and thought about heading down the route of having a dress made. I booked an appointment with a dress maker, but before this I had one last appointment booked with Miss Bush in Ripley. As soon as I walked in there I instantly fell in love with a dress on the mannequin, The Duncan by Houghton. It was elegant but not glamorous, sexy but not revealing, simple but not boring, unique but still a wedding dress. And they had only started stocking Houghton that week. It was fate!!!!”

“The back of the dress was high to the neck like the front so I asked if I could have it made with a V going right down to the seam at the waist. Thankfully Houghton were happy to make the dress with the change and my dream dress was born!

My mum and two of my bridesmaids came with me to the first appointment. I don’t think any of them were super excited about it at first, until I put it on! It was so me, and we all knew it was the one without anyone saying a word.”

“Although finding a dress was stressful, it did make for lots of lovely days out with my mum and Bridesmaids which always followed with wine!

I chose a waterfall veil and bought some gold hair accessories from Etsy. These later changed into a hair slide with foliage which was made by my wonderful florists.

I kept my shoes simple with some beautiful pink suede heels from Reiss.”

ABOUT THE DAY

Sophie tells us more about their fun relaxed yurt wedding in Surrey;

“We wanted our wedding to represent us so we based  the style on the decor of our home. Lots of white and metallics with the only pops of colour coming from the flowers. This meant we had no real colour scheme so made bridesmaid and groom/groomsman shopping pretty easy!”

My favourite part of the day was without a doubt when we all first arrived at Halliford Mere Lakes. Seeing the yurt fully dressed and seeing all of our guests reaction to it was just amazing. We had a roaming band called Super Tenants playing when we arrived and within 30 minutes everybody was singing and dancing in the sunshine. It totally broke the ice and is a moment we will both remember forever.”

FINAL WORDS

Some wedding wisdom from our bride, Sophie;

“Just do you. Forget all expectations and all traditions. Wear what makes you feel comfortable, eat your favourite foods, dance to your favourite songs, make the day as personal as you possibly can, forget the things you can’t control, remember why you’re all there, take in each and every moment, it really will be the best day of your life.”
