My views on industry awards events are well known. One always has to wonder the reason behind them other than philanthropy.

The trade awards, held at BBEH, at the quieter, less popular March event  was about attracting key retailers & designers to make the arduous journey to Harrogate when it was otherwise unnecessary. More cynical interpretations are possible – never have I seen so many Award Sponsors give prizes to their own stockists. This is not to say they are not all fine companies it is just a closed circle.

Miss Bush has just won a Highly Commended Award from Perfect Wedding magazine. It will be lovely to have the trophy on display, it was lovely that many of our brides and peers took the time to vote. It’s just that no one from Perfect Wedding has ever been to our shop. It could be a damp lock-up in the arse-end of beyond. Clearly it’s not, it’s magnificent. Perfect Wedding know us by our status as an advertiser.

I am going to recommend that you take part in such a voting system . Wedding and Wedding Flowers magazine are holding a blog awards. Why? Why would they want to honour their competition? Why would they encourage the feisty bunch of start-ups that are pulling their advertising revenue from under them? I suspect increased traffic to their website & the backing of the highly ‘in-touch’ bloggers for their endorsement.

The chosen bloggers, some planners, some style bloggers, some photographers mixed up in random categories, deserve your love. They can be rebellious, anarchic, gauche & a bit misguided. I love all these traits as much  as I love their passion, commitment, style, independence & headstrong determination to get their blogs off the ground. I am very honoured to have met a lot of the nominees. They are entirely worthy of your votes. They have been supporters of my business and events and likewise I have become a blog sponsor to many.

If you haven’t read some of them I suggest you take a look. If you read the lot – you can pick your way through the categories and find your favourites -I already have.
